Welcome to Just A Thought (JAT), a blog post where I share my thoughts on a subject.
Today’s topic: Couponing
Couponing had been an under utilized tool for my family but with a recent change in household income I’ve been “pulling out all the stops” to make our dollars go farther.
I started with health and beauty items (I ❤ makeup) and quickly learned how to save on my purchases. We recently did a “test” at the grocery store/local wholesale club and the savings were worth giving couponing serious consideration. We are a small family so I don’t see the need to buy more than we could use or store in a reasonable period of time which brings me to – Extreme Couponing.
I have watched TLC’s Extreme Couponing and was quite impressed with the savings of each woman, but also had concerns. Some had more items than they could safely store or keep track of (expiration dates).
Recent US statistics (http://www.worldhunger.org – 2013) show that 46.9 million people were in poverty at the end of 2010, that’s a rate of 15.1%, and the largest demographic affected was children under the age of 18. Pretty shocking, huh?
When you buy more than you can consume (even if it’s a great deal or free) is it really saving or a need to collect things? Leave your thoughts in the comments.
